So, yesterday was a full, fun day. Started off with a meeting with colleagues at 3:00 to finalize a proposal for a very cool project. Then I met up with hubby for a delicious light meal, followed by a wine tasting at Windham Wine Gallery.
It was a German wine tasting night! I'm a huge fan of German white wines so it was a perfect evening for me! :) In addition to the great wines we got to sample, we also got together with good friends we haven't seen in a while. It's always good to reconnect.
Currently, I'm taking a Wine 101 class at Windham Wines. Our last class is next week. We have 7 in our class. 6 of us were at the wine tasting last night!
After the wine tasting, Omer and I went to see The Counterfeiters at The Latchis Theatre.
There were 3 of us in the large main theatre! It was a pretty heavy movie but one that we really wanted to see. And it gave us a good chance to be sure we were completely sober before driving home. It is an Austrian film! Luckily, I wasn't buzzed enough that subtitles bothered me! The movie is based on true events and it's definitely not an uplifting, inspiring story. But it's real, realistic and interesting. I can honestly say that I have no idea what I would do if put in the same situation as those men! But it was interesting to try to see all their perspectives and my conclusion in the end is that there is no one right or wrong answer. It was a true moral dilemma.
It was a terrific evening out! :)

I've woefully neglected my blogthings! Since I don't feel like blogging much these days, I've decided to entertain myself with some of the latest blogthings!
I would agree with this! But I have to say, I can do a heck of a lot with CornFlakes!! :)
You Are Corn Flakes |
![]() You are traditional and easy going. If something is high quality, you're satisfied with it. You don't need much variety or novelty in your life. You're happy with what you have. You're quite loyal. You're the type of person who eats the same breakfast every day... And likely at the exact same time each day! |
Who? Me? Someone else must have taken this quiz in my place!!
What's Important to You... And What Isn't: |
![]() For you, sex is usually your number one priority. You find getting things done to be incredibly stressful. You don't like having things to do. Your most important priorities get your attention. You are happily able to let the less important things slide. You want thinking to be a high priority, but you don't take enough time for yourself. |
I'd love to visit Hawaii! Some day!! :)
What Your Flip Flops Say About You |
![]() You are super laid back and peaceful. Not much disturbs you. You're content with what you have in life, and you can't stand feeling worked up. A lot of good things tend to come your way in life... You're not too busy or stressed to let an opportunity pass you by. Your ideal warm weather place: Hawaii |

Well, right now I'm sitting in the Denver airport, sipping a margarita and waiting for my near midnight flight to board, which won't be for over an hour!
The flight from Phoenix to Denver was pleasant. It's the first time I've flown Frontier Airlines. I'm fascinated, to say the least! The plane was great and I expect the next one to be as well since they're the same make/model. They're newer, clean and comfortable seating. Not knee cramping!
But, Frontier has this peculiar quirk. It charges you for the onboard entertainment. $5.00 for TV channels, for which you are also paying for the privilege of seeing real TV programming, commercials and all. For $8.00, you can watch a movie! I've never experienced an airline that charges for onboard entertainment in this way. I think the most I ever paid before was like $4.00 for headphones, which I got to keep! This kinda sucks but I don't really mind because I truly intend to try to sleep on my next flight since it's a midnight - 5:30 a.m. flight. I'll need some sleep, for sure. I've got a full day tomorrow when I get home. Still, it sort of grinds at me that they charge. Also, they don't take cash. You have to pay for everything (even drinks) with a credit card. They even have a freakin' credit card reader on the back of each seat! Whoa! I don't know if this going to be a trend throughout the airline industry but all I can say is I wouldn't spend to much of my hard earned travel dollars on Frontier Airlines!
So, I should arrive in Hartford at around 5:30 and then it'll be another hour or so drive before I am home and can take a shower and get ready for my breakfast meeting at 8 a.m.! Am I nuts?! Probably! :)
But then I get to go home after that meeting and snooze until my 3:00 p.m. meeting!
I'm looking forward to being home with hubby and the kids (animals)! :)

Got up at 4 a.m. this morning. Luckily, I was at a hotel near the airport in Windsor Lock, CT and was able to get to the airport for 5 a.m. with no problem. The check in was fast and easy for my bag, security went smoothly and quickly. They actually had 3 lanes open this morning. The flight left pretty much on time. The only glitch was that instead of arriving in Charlotte at Gate B7 and being able to transfer to Gate B12 easily, we arrived at Gate C17. Now, since I had only about 15 minutes before my flight started boarding at Gate C17, I was not a happy camper having to hoof it through the airport. But, I made it in time just as they were calling my zone for boarding!
The flight left Charlotte on time and we actually arrived in Phoenix 40 minutes before the schedule arrival time. Of course, this meant that our arrival gate wasn't free because a plane was still in it. But, we didn't have to wait much more than 10 minutes on the tarmack before we were able to go into our gate. The rest of the time earned, however, was spent waiting for the luggage to arrive at the carousel. It easily took 20 minutes for it to arrive. I can't remember when I've waited so long for my luggage!
Still, all in all, I was being picked up curbside by 11:10 a.m. and heading to Casa Grande with my aunt and her friend.
I completed the first half of my page proofs for my chapters on the first flight and finished up on the second flight! It felt good getting those done. I can now vacation with a clear conscience! :)
After arriving in Casa Grande, we ended up at a restaurant called Mimi's Cafe for lunch where I enjoyed a most wonderful seafood fettuccine and a lovely glass of riesling.
Now, I'm unwinding and considering a dip in the pool! This is going to be a very relaxing vacation, I can tell! :)

Okay! That's about all I can say this morning...and all I could say last night after the concert! WOW!
REO Speedwagon performed first and outside of their 3 monster hits, I really didn't know their music much but it was fantastic listening to those hits and experiencing the other music. They've got a new album out and performed a song or two from that. Imagine that, new music! :) I have to say that I was a little put off by the "pics and sticks" stuff! All throughout the concert they were throwing guitar picks into the audience. Of course, only those in the first 5-10 rows got any. Then the drummer came down with about half a dozen drumsticks and began throwing them into the audience. Then there was the encore and after that they began throwing pics by the handful! Somehow, it loses it's charm and really feels like pandering when it's done by the handful! I was actually a little embarrassed for them.
Then there was a quick stage change...enough time for me to get to the bathroom and find myself a cosmopolitan and some water for Omer and Jess. The Def Leppard concert started within 10 minutes of me getting back to my seat. Now, one might blame the cosmopolitan for my initial euphoria but that (the cosmo) quickly wore off. However, the euphoria lasted long after the show! I think I was tucking myself into bed around 2 a.m. still saying it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to!
As I said before, I really don't know Def Leppard that well. Their music was never on my playlist. I didn't follow them in the 80's, 90's or ever. But LORD can those boys perform! From the first guitar lick to the last I was enthralled! It was awesome! I was particularly taken with Vivian Campbell! Holy cow! I've never seen anyone play guitar like that! It was phenomenal! But, that's not to take anything away from the rest of the band! They're all awesome!
I didn't bring my camera because I know that the Mohegan Sun frowns on them and last night they were particularly thorough in their searches, including pat downs, which I've never experienced at a concert before! And there was an announcement forbidding photography and video but I noticed plenty of people with cell phones recording the concert. But I found a video on YouTube of one of my favorite songs from this tour:
Oh, and did I mention how buff these guys are! Well, they are! :)
I know this was meant to be a gift and special treat for my niece, but I can honestly say that Omer and I had an excellent time as well!

So, in less than an hour we're headed out to the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT. Why? Well, my 13 year old niece has fallen in love with the band, Def Leppard. She's been a fan for almost 2 years now and so for her birthday, I purchased concert tickets for her. Now, I've never been a Def Leppard fan but also on the stage tonight will be REO Speedwagon. While not a HUGE fan of theirs, I do know more of their music and they're a bit more my speed. Still, I'm always up for new experiences so tonight I plan to enjoy both bands!

Both are kinda cute...huh!?! :)

What music related tv shows do you or have you watched?
I used to watch American Bandstand and The Monkees every Saturday! I also loved Sonny & Cher, Donny & Marie, The Partridge Family and others for their music. Oh...and let us not forget Josie and the Pussycats! Yes, it was a guilty pleasure of mine as a kid, also on Saturday mornings! :)
Have you ever gone to see a movie just for the music?
Yes. Plenty. The first one that I remember in the rock genre was Tommy! I just loved that movie and saw it several times at the theatre. The next love was The Rocky Horror Picture Show!
What is you favorite music related movie?
Hard to say that there's one favorite! I still enjoy seeing Tommy and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, but I've also loved such movies as The Buddy Holly Story and The Doors.

EXPRESS!
This week it is Heads - Express. As it turns out, I received a package today via....you guessed it, Federal Express!

The funny thing is, the email I received from the shipper for my phone number indicated that the shipment would be arriving via DHL! If that had been the case, I might not have a such a great EXPRESS post! :)
The box I received contained the second set of page proofs of the textbook I'm co-authoring. So, it was quite a big box!

Give Me Five favorite candies, of all time or currently.
Well, I'm a great lover of candy and my favorite candy is chocolate. So, here are my favorites chocolates:
1. REESE'S PEANUT BUTTER CUPS
These have been my favorite since I was a child! And they remain my number one favorites today. I like them as eggs, Christmas trees, giant cups, etc. But I'm not a fan of any of the variations....caramel, dark chocolate, white chocolate, etc. Give me the original only, please!

2. CHOCOTOFF These are Belgian delights that I discovered since meeting/marrying Omer over 11 years ago. They quickly became a favorite of mine. Not only mine, but my friends, as well! I'd better not go to The Netherlands and come back without several bags of Chokotoff for my friends and family! They are yummy, abeit filling removing, chocolate toffees covered in delicious chocolate. So, they pack a double chocolatey punch!
3. HERSHEY MILK CHOCOLATE BARS These are also a favorite from my childhood and frankly when I want a pure chocolate fix, nothing does it quite like a good old fashioned Hershey's Chocolate Bar!
4. M&M's Be they plain, peanut, almost, peanut butter, dark or crisp, I love M&Ms! I'm not crazy about the mini's but any of the others are yummy!

5. Nestle's Caramel Treasures! These are just the best liquid caramel chocolates in the world! I like both the milk and the dark chocolate!

Well, it was a very quick, short trip to NYC but it was great fun! I had a goal to see certain people and to do certain things and I pretty much accomplished everything on my list and then some.
We arrived on Thursday night at about 9:30 at Grand Central Station. What a gorgeous station it is! We went straight to the restaurant for dinner. It was Via Brazil, a Brazilian restaurant on 46th street. We had a lovely dinner...me a gorgeous steak and eggs and Melissa had spicy shrimp. We also enjoyed caipirinhas. Everything was delicious. From here, we walked to our hotel. It was less than a 15 minute walk away and it was lightly raining. The Amsterdam Court Hotel was attractive and comfortable. We arrived at around 11:30 and decided to go straight to bed since we had to be up in about 6 hours.
Friday morning we walked to the Hilton Towers hotel to attend the Author's Breakfast for Cambridge University Press. It was a wonderful breakfast and we ended up sitting with a group of Brazilian authors and CUP staff. We didn't plan it that way but it was delightful and serendipitous. One of the people I was hoping to see was my friend Daniela, from Rio, and she did sit with us for breakfast and we had a lovely time catching up.
After breakfast, we headed to the lobby to meet up with another friend and ended up bumping into two! We then followed these friends to the exhibitors area of the TESOL Conference and ran into yet another long lost friend. Melissa and I didn't head into the Exhibit Hall but waited for our friends, Brian, Maggie and Alison to return. When they did, we enjoyed a coffee in the lobby and caught up with one another.
Melissa and I then headed to the Bliss Spa on 57th street to check out their products. It was heavenly and if we'd had enough time, we probably would have tried to book sessions at the Spa. However, after inquiring about the lead time, it's at least a week or two. So, next time we'll have to definitely book ahead! :)
We then joined up with Maggie and Alison and other friends for lunch. While waiting to meet up with them in the back lobby, I ran into yet more friends/colleagues! That's the fun of TESOL! You can't walk down any hallway and not run into someone you know! After hugs all around, we headed to lunch at a lovely Italian restaurant up the street! Lunch was so good, right down to the cappuccinos and tiramisu!
After lunch, we said our goodbyes and hopped into a cab to head back to Grand Central Station to head back home. We wanted to be sure to get on the road before full on rush hour and while it was still daylight! Well, we didn't miss rush hour but I think we were ahead of peak by about 30 minutes. So, it was busy but not as busy as it can get on a Friday night.
Melissa dropped me at my favorite restaurant in Bernardston, MA called the Four Leaf Clover where I met up with Omer! We had a nice dinner together and headed home. It was good to get home and crawl into bed! I was exhausted!
Like I said, it was short, sweet and intense but our trip to New York City was great fun! My one regret, I forgot my camera! :)

It's insane, I admit it, but my friend and I are headed to NYC on Thursday night! :) We're gonna drive to New Haven and take the train in so that we can attend the Cambridge Author Breakfast! Then we're headed back on Friday! Nuts! But we should have time for a little bit of fun.
First of all, we're staying at a cool hotel within walking distance of the breakfast venue. The Amsterdam Court Hotel New York looks like it will be a very comfortable place to stay!

1. New York City - I hope to visit there at the end of this week to attend an Author's breakfast for Cambridge University Press since I'm now in the CUP author family! :)
2. Mohegan Sun Casino to take my niece to a Def Leppard concert! She's 13 and a huge fan!
3. Providence, Rhode Island to attend a Moody Blues concert!
4. Hopefully, San Francisco for a consultancy. My first time in SF outside of the airport! :)
5. Burma - For a consultancy, provided things don't deteriorate too much between now and June/July! I've been twice and loved it! I look forward to going back and continuing the work!

On Saturday, we took my nieces to lunch at a local diner, The Chelsea Royal! We had a really good lunch....erm...breakfast for Omer and I, lunch for the girls!

I had steak and eggs, Omer had an omelette and the girls had mac & cheese & frank and grilled cheese sandwich. Nothing fancy. But all very tasty! It's unusual to be able to have lunch out for 4 for under $40 but you can do it at a good diner! :)
We then took the girls to see
I was pleasantly surprised! It was quite good. And it actually entertained all 4 of us! Omer went kicking and screaming...but in the end, whether he'll admit it or not, he enjoyed it, too! :)

Give Me Five favorite memories from your Easter day 2008
I'm concentrating on some of the food I enjoyed yesterday!
1. Delicious appetizer of stuffed mushrooms!
2. I made baked beans!
3. Gotta have ham with those beans!
4. A nice bottle of Gewurzstraminer, my favorite!
5. And, finally, a wonderful array of cupcakes.
Not quite this fancily frosted as these, but colorful and twice as tasty!
